FIABCI Publishes The City We Need is Affordable Vol II

Following the very successful publication of The City We Need is Affordable in 2016, FIABCI, the International Real Estate Federation, published a second volume that debuted at their Global Real Estate Summit in Athens. Featuring large scale affordable housing developments from around the world, the book is the latest result of FIABCI’s partnership with the UN-Habitat World Urban Campaign.
Continued extraordinary population growth, migration and urbanization demand solutions from the real estate industry. FIABCI Chapters from every region share a common vision and recognize that members' expertise and knowledge are essential for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the UN-Habitat New Urban Agenda. “During the past year, we have deepened our collaboration with UN-Habitat and are pleased to promote dialogue and the sharing of best practices and innovative ideas for affordable/workforce housing with our colleagues around the world,” noted FIABCI World President Farook Mahmood.
Solutions featured in the book include:
  •  Rent-to-Own programs and flexible payment plans in Ghana and Nigeria where mortgage financing is largely unavailable.
  • The “Affordable, Available and Desirable” campaign in Taiwan to rebrand social housing.
  • Hundreds of empty shipping container apartments in Amsterdam to house Dutch youth as well as refugees with temporary status to better integrate the refugees into society.
  •  Minha Casa Minha Vida (My House My Life) subsidized housing program in Brazil where 4,157,000 housing units have been delivered to upgrade slum housing.
  • Transferrable Development Rights in India where developers gain incentives to help subsidize housing construction costs and also receive land for other commercial development which is purchased or transferred.
The book was sponsored by Treasure Dragon Corporation and Hsin-Yeh Construction of Taiwan.
