The C40 World Mayors Summit is a global coalition of leading cities, businesses, and citizens rallying around radical and ambitious climate action of utmost urgency for the planet. C40 Cities connects more than 90 of the world’s leading cities to take bold climate action and build a healthier and more sustainable future. Representing 700+ million citizens and one-quarter of the global economy, mayors of C40 cities are committed to delivering on the most ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement at the local level, as well as to cleaning the air we breathe. The C40 Summit will showcase examples of how cities are already delivering on their strong commitments and accelerate the bold climate solutions needed for a sustainable, healthier, resilient and inclusive future.

Copenhagen is the context for C40 World Mayors Summit, Live Like Tomorrow and IFHP Social Cities over the course of four days, where the primary day for the IFHP Social Cities UTC is on 9th October, allowing UTC participant to also take part in the C40 LLT events: on the 10th October “Partying Like Tomorrow; on the 11th October the Friday afternoon Climate Strike and the Copenhagen Culture Night, and 12th October LLT site visits all over town.

The UTC will kick off with keynotes from Jens Kramer Mikkelsen former Lord Mayor of Copenhagen and CEO of Copenhagen and now IFHP President, who is attributed with The Copenhagen Model; and Bruce Katz, Founding Director of Nowak Metro Finance Lab, exploring ways to financing the inclusive city that work for all of its residents – aka ensuring a social city. The day to be topped off Soft City, almost the press Soft City by David Sim, Partner and Creative Director at Gehl

Bottom line the objective of the UTC “Social Cities: Indicators, Ideation, Implementation” is to gauge and advance the implementation of greater social sustainability of cities and communities. As such Social Cities is IFHP’s response to the UN SDGs and UN Habitat New Urban Agenda calls to action for delivery and implementation of sustainable solutions.
