WUF9 Networking Event: WFC - Improving Urban Planning for Regenerative City Development - Experiences Sharing of One Belt One Road Country Cities

The World Future Council (WFC) and the Energy Foundation (EF) will co-organize a networking event at WUF 9 themed at: Improving Urban Planning for Regenerative City Development - Experiences Sharing of One Belt One Road Country Cities, at 9:00-11:00, Feb 8, in room 403.

With active development and great potential in the world, the One Belt One Road (OBOR) countries occupy 40% of the world area, while gather about 70% of the world population and over 55% of them living in cities. According to UN statistics, by 2050, more than 3.39 billion people of OBOR countries will be living in cities, with 350 million people moving to cities every year. With such rapid urbanization, low carbon, sustainable, regenerative city development in OBOR countries has great influence on the SDGs implementation globally.

At the same time, there are many shared challenges facing OBOR countries, the inner flood caused by climate change, the ecosystem damaged because of unscientific planning, the pollutions caused by rapid urbanization…, these shared challenges require shared experience and joint actions, and by sharing and discussing the best practice from cities of OBOR countries, there is effective demonstration effect and great influence on implementing SDGs at city level.

Under this background, the World Future Council (WFC) cooperates with the Energy Foundation (EF), to co-organize a networking event at 9:00-11:00 on February 8, to share the planning guidance for smart and green cities with concrete examples, to present China’s national Sponge City campaign - unsealing the surface of the city for climate resilience, to explore south - south and south – north cooperation opportunities in terms of cities’ sustainable development, and to share the best experience of regenerative and low carbon cities from One Belt One Road countries….
