Can sustainable urban planning can result in creating inclusive communities? Our answer is a clear and loud ‘YES’! However, when discussing such comprehensive topics, it is often easier said than done: sustainable urban planning can refer to a plethora of things in endless different contexts. Besides, how exactly do we define an ‘inclusive community’?

Time to have a good discussion and bring in some of the main experts in the field, from all over the world! This is exactly what will happen during The International Housing Forum (IHF 2017), a two-day event, running from 7-8 September in Singapore, which is also this year’s IFHP annual Summit.

Taking the cue from the New Urban Agenda, which was adopted at the 2016 United Nations (UN) Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), we have designed this Forum to focus on the theme of ‘Sustainable Planning, Inclusive Communities’. The goal is to advance the New Urban Agenda through policy, planning, design and technological interventions.

To improve the lives of the present and future generations, we need to re-envision the way cities and towns are planned, designed, developed and governed, through the building of sustainable developments, providing affordable housing and creating inclusive communities.

The good news? You are invited to join (and if you are an IFHP member you can make use of the membership discount)!

The International Housing Forum 2017 will, as such, be a platform for housing and planning experts and professionals worldwide to exchange good practices and ideas on planning and housing. This Forum is jointly organised by us, the IFHP, the Housing & Development Board (HDB), the Eastern Regional Organisation for Planning & Human Settlements (EAROPH), as well as the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) and the Singapore Institute of Planners (SIP).

During this two-day Forum, we will discuss a wide range of topics, including the planning and design of liveable, sustainable and inclusive cities, the development of affordable housing and the policy and governance frameworks that enable such developments, and in the process, exchange views on some of the ways we can advance the New Urban Agenda.

We are privileged to be joined by a slate of renowned speakers, including Dr Eugénie Birch (Nussdorf Professor of Urban Research, University of Pennsylvania), Dr Philipp Rode (Executive Director, LSE Cities), Prof David Chan (Director of Behavioural Sciences Institute, SMU), Ms Jacqueline Poh (Chief Executive, Government Technology Agency), and many others who will share their expertise over this Forum. Our own CEO Anette Galskjøt will moderate the panel debate.

The IHF 2017 is an affirmation of our continuing efforts to pursue innovative ideas for housing and ’Make Better Cities For All’. Will you join us?

In conjuntion with the International Housing Forum, we will host our annual IFHP Council Summit in Singapore on the 9th of September. The Council Summit 2017 will gather our current council and board. All IFHP members are welcome to sit-in on the council meeting.
