Urban Campaigns 2020-2021

UN-Habitat ended 2020 with two successful campaigns, “40 days Safer Cities Challenge” and the “#Housing4AllCampaign”. 

Launched on the International Day of Peace (21 September), the 40 Days Safer Cities Challenge raised awareness on safety in cities and urban crime prevention and promoted concrete actions by citizens. Jointly organized BY UN-Habitat with the Global Network on Safer Cities (GNSC), the challenge also amplified innovation towards action to achieve the urban and safety dimensions of the SDGs. A total of 34 partner organizations engaged in the challenge through 31 lively events featuring 150 speakers. A total of 17 innovations were identified and shared by the partners of the campaign. Housing4All, a five-week Campaign, was launched by UN-Habitat on the World Habitat Day dedicated to the theme. The central message of the Campaign was that housing is not just a roof. It is a human right that contributes to health, dignity, safety, inclusion, and well-being. One of the key features of the Campaign has been the Human Shelter film, a critically acclaimed documentary sponsored by IKEAwith live testimonies asking people what makes a home, available in all UN languages. The film has generated 11,600 views and the movie trailer more than 2.3 million. The campaign has helped gathering and sharing housing solutions, key messages and promoting housing for all during Urban October and through 12 events organized by UN-Habitat. Read more
