3rd WUC ASSEMBLY MEETING - 13 OCTOBER

Dear Partners, dear City Changers and followers,

The UN-Habitat Secretariat have the pleasure to announce the 3rd WUC Assembly Meeting. The WUC Assembly is held at least once a year to gather all partners and present achievements of the past year. The Steering Committee reports to its members on key results, acknowledging new partners and engaging in a dialogue. Also, the Executive Director conveys UN-Habitat’s vision for the next steps and future milestones of the World Urban Campaign. The theme for this year’s assembly will be “Increasing advocacy by the World Urban Campaign to support sustainable and inclusive, recovery and long-term resilience.”

Approved in 2020, the vision of the WUC to 2030 is to develop solutions and take action in cities and communities to implement the New Urban Agenda to accelerate the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030. The WUC Goal is to help achieve the urban dimension of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030 and implement the New Urban Agenda. The WUC has been thriving on partnerships to deliver on actions in a spirit of collaboration and mutual support amongst the diverse community of partners. Discussions will highlight how building synergies is crucial in order to catalyze actions that will accelerate the achievement of the (SDGs).

In 2022, the focus will be on our urban future; more precisely ‘Transforming our Cities for a Better Urban Future.’ The coronavirus pandemic is a stark reminder that urban areas need to be prepared for a dynamic and unpredictable future. Together as the World Urban Campaign we can steer the debate around the theme to supercharge ideas to solutions and help deliver the urban dimensions of the Decade of Action. It has been an exciting journey that will end after COP26; a key moment for all of us to hopefully see more commitments to address climate change. We invite you to join us on Wednesday 13th October from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm (EAT; Nairobi time) in celebrating the achievements of the past year and committing to our vision of “together shaping the future of cities leaving no one behind.”

The meeting is open to all WUC Partners and will be organized through video conference using Webex by Cisco.
