EGYPT URBAN CAMPAIGN - 2nd Urban Thinkers Together Assembly Meeting

Description: The second EUC Assembly Meeting at Nile University aims to build upon the outcomes of the initial EUC Assembly Meeting held at Cairo University from April 20 to 24, 2024. This follow-up meeting will focus on an in-depth discussion of EUC updates, reviewing the progress made by EUC partners, and outlining plans for EUC collaborative efforts. The objective is to provide a comprehensive dialogue platform and foster an environment where partners can address queries and share valuable insights.


Background: The Egypt Urban Campaign aims to engage UN-Habitat partners and citizens in Egypt in preparation for the World Urban Forum 12 (WUF 12), to make it a significant event for the country's future. Its objectives include promoting successful solutions to urban sustainability issues and facilitating proactive stakeholder exchanges on local urban topics.

 

Coordinated by UN-Habitat under the World Urban Campaign, the initiative is supported by a diverse network of partners totalling over 315 organizations. Joining member organizations are Egypt-based entities focusing on urban and related cultural matters, validated by UN-Habitat. Prospective members apply through an online form and provide an application letter outlining their commitments to the campaign.

 

The campaign is structured around six pillars addressing various topics:

  • People: Population growth and urbanization, opportunities in cities

  • Heritage: Preservation of urban heritage (cultural and natural), urban regeneration

  • Resilience: Water systems, food systems

  • Inclusion: Accessibility, affordability, youth and gender inclusion in Egyptian cities

  • Well-being: Creating healthy cities, promoting sports in urban areas

  • Housing: Implementing the Egypt Housing Strategy, housing design, addressing housing-related climate change issues.
